Michael Thomas Wood

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Thomas Wood, who left us peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on December 27, 1969, in Decatur, Alabama, Mike was the cherished son of Fred Wood and Katie Vanderford.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength. His greatest joy was his family, and he will be dearly missed. Mike loved the Lord and was a proud patriot with a deep respect for all who served this country. He exemplified strength, resilience, and selflessness, and poured his heart fully into everything he did. He had a unique way of making those around him feel heard, valued, and deeply loved. To know him was to witness a life of integrity, compassion, and boundless love.

Mike is survived by his wife, Cindy S. Wood; his son, Brendan; his daughter, Cathy Kimbrough; grandchildren, Hunter and Ava Kimbrough; siblings, Matthew Wood, Karen Wood, and Patricia Helton; and mother, Katie Vanderford.

To say that Mike was one of a kind is an understatement, and his departure leaves an irreplaceable void.

A service to honor Mike's life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:00 a.m.. Family and friends are invited to attend. 

We will forever carry him in our hearts.

Pallbearers will be Brendan Wood, Evan Helton, Scott Selent, Larry Hill, Tory Kimbrough, and Ramone Gains.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Helton, Chad Erp, and Felton Wood, Jr.
