Funeral service for Mary Joyce (Wimberly) Hankla, age 80, of Decatur will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Benny Sivley officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN. Family and friends will meet in the Committal Chapel at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Hankla, who died Monday, February 24, 2025, at her residence was born November 15, 1944, in Alabama to George Robert Wimberly and Emily Corinne Larimore Wimberly. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Janet Homeier. She was a member of Decatur Baptist Church, and of the Alabama Cherokee Tribe. Mrs. Hankla worked as a preschool teacher for many years in Griffith, IN, and later as a medical office receptionist.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Hankla; son, Robert Hankla (Shelly); daughter, Dawn Petrey (Lloyd); sister, JoAnn Garrett; five grandchildren, Rachel Knapp (Kyle), Lindsey Ebbinger (Jordan), Adam Petrey (R'Nelle Collins), RaeAnne Vens (Kyle), and Elisa Johnson (Brian); and two great-grandchildren, Aria Knapp and Emersyn Knapp.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Decatur Baptist Church Literature Ministry.
