Memorial service for James “Kennith” Maples, age 85, of Decatur will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Alan Queen officiating. Mr. Maples, who died Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born February 19, 1939, to Dalford and Irene Way Maples. Kennith married his beloved Mary “Sue” Turner in 1960. They were married for 61 years when Sue passed in 2022. He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service following 36 years of dedicated service. He helped incorporate the Mud Tavern Volunteer Fire Department in 1983, served as Fire Chief from 1996-2008, and was President of the board for 25 years. He also served his community as a youth league coach for baseball and basketball, and umpired baseball for many years. He loved riding his horses, gardening every spring and summer, working outdoors, but loved his family most of all. His grandkids were the light of his life.
Kennith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, and brothers, Philip Maples, Raymon Maples, Floyd Maples, Loyd Maples; brother-in-law, Lee Daniel; and sister-in-law, Jan Maples.
He is survived by three sons, David Maples (Donna), Bryan Maples (Jennifer), Tracy Maples (Nancy); three brothers, Louis Maples, Bobby Maples (Sue), and Charles Maples (Michelle); three sisters, Margaret Daniel, Dale Ray (Fred), and Dianne Ferrell (Leon); sister-in-law, Lisa Maples; seven grandchildren, Taylor Allen (Zachary), Logan Maples, Garrett Maples, Sofia Maples, Jackson Brown, Dave Russell, and Michael Russell; and great-grandchild, Lexie Russell.
