Funeral service for J. D. Burks, age 82, of Hillsboro will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Matthias Letson officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. Guestbook available at www.parkwayfunerals.com.
Mr. Burks, who died Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his residence was born March 20, 1943, in Alabama to George Edward Burks and Vernie Agnus Letson Burks. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna King; parents; and two sisters, Martha Johnson (Blaine) and Betty Joe Clark (J. W.). J. D. Burks had a gang of sisters, whom he loved and cherished, and was somewhat a momma's boy. He married the love of his life, Janice Ledlow Burks on March 21, 1961. He worked 70-plus years in construction with APAC, TVA, and other companies. He loved to talk about the old days and would argue with any and everyone, and he was always right! He loved horses (he owned many), coon hunting, just animals and being outdoors in general. He was a die hard Auburn fan; you hardly ever would see him without his Auburn cap and chew in his shirt pocket. J. D. was loved and will be missed. The family would like to express their thanks to Sharon with hospice for being with them in J.D.'s final days.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Faye (Ledlow) Burks; three sons, Marcal Gene Burks (Karen), Jay Burks (Cynthia) and Israel Burks; two daughters, Melinda Rampley (Jay) and Tamatha Hood; two sisters, Rhonda Lovett (Wayne) and Melba Way (Reul); 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Burks, Jay Burks, Israel Burks, Joseph Burks, Stormy Burks, Justin Hood, and Timmy Johnson.
