Hazel Bernice (Terry) Owens

Funeral service for Hazel Bernice (Terry) Owens, age 87, of Decatur, will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.  Guestbook available at www.parkwayfunerals.com.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernice Terry Owens, who personified the essence of caring and kindness, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  A member of Beltline Church of Christ, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She was known for her gentle nature and generous heart.  She had a special talent for making everyone feel welcome and loved.  Her selflessness knew no bounds and she tirelessly dedicated herself to the needs of others.  Bernice was a true embodiment of the virtuous woman found in Proverbs.  Bernice will be deeply missed, but we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who passed before her.

Mrs. Owens, who died Wednesday, September 6, 2023, in Decatur, was born March 15, 1936, in Lawrence County, Alabama to Sherman and Della Terry.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin Owens; daughter, Becky Thomas; her parents; two brothers, Sherman Terry, Jr. and Billy Terry; six sisters, Audrey Speake, Alder Terry, Ertha Belle Terry, Buron Norwood, and Edna Dean Terry; and grandchild, Calvin Easterly.

She is survived by two daughters, Bridget Easterly and Denise Rose (Steve); son-in-law, Larry Thomas, brother Charles Terry, seven grandchildren, Jessica McLendon, Nick Reid, Ryan Easterly, Joy Easterly, Terry-Lynn Easterly, Melanie Flynt (Raece), and Julianna Woolard (Nathan); and six great-grandchildren, Ava McLendon, Anna McLendon, McCauley Flynt, Asher Woolard, Adeline Woolard, and Camryn Easterly.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
