Elizabeth Gail (McWhorter) Bowling

Funeral service for Elizabeth Gail (McWhorter) Bowling, age 85, of Moulton, will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Moulton Church of Christ with her son, Denny Bowling, and grandsons, Denton Bowling, Guthre Wallace, Dylan Wallace, and Radney Wallace, officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be in McWhorter Family Cemetery.  Guestbook available at www.parkwayfunerals.com.

Mrs. Bowling, who died Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center, was born August 17, 1939, in Alabama to William Hugh McWhorter and Madge Mabel Hill McWhorter.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Bowling; parents; three brothers, Hugh McWhorter, Kyle McWhorter, and Max McWhorter; and son-in-law, Mac Rushing.  

Elizabeth married her high school sweetheart (O.D.) in 1955, and they were anticipating their 70th anniversary in July.  She had an undying love and devotion to her faith, family, and friends.  Cooking was one of her greatest joys, especially when shared with family and friends.  Her kitchen was the heart of her home.  She resolved that any happiness could be celebrated and any problem solved over a warm home-cooked meal at her kitchen table.  Her hobbies were flower gardening (especially roses) and vegetable gardening (canning and freezing).  She also enjoyed nature, emphasizing her love of hummingbirds and cardinals.  Elizabeth was an active member of Moulton Church of Christ.  "Now abideth faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."  I Corinthians 13:13.

She is survived by her husband, O. D. Bowling; son, Denny Bowling (Jeanne); daughter, Rhonda Rushing; brother, Ray McWhorter; sister, Sue Johnson; five grandchildren, Denton Bowling (Haley), Guthre Wallace, Angel Wallace, Dylan Wallace (Kerri Lynn), and Radney Wallace (Alex); and eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Wallace, Brae Bowling, Charlie Wallace, Zy Bowling, Jade Wallace, William Wallace, Tristan Wallace, and Olivia Wallace.

Pallbearers will be Denton Bowling, Guthre Wallace, Dylan Wallace, Radney Wallace, Tim McWhorter, Walter "Bird" Young, David Elliott, and Rickey Naylor.  Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Compton, Mitchell Compton, Alton Smith, Ocie Thrasher, Clinton Hardin, John Holley, Randy Bowerman, James Hooper, Jack Burch, Scotty Evans, Jackie Burch, and Keith Balch.
