Charles Edward Gillespie passed away peacefully at his family home on Monday, April 27, 2026, in the care of his loving wife of 60 years, Linda Gillespie.
Charles was a devoted husband, father, outdoorsman, and above all – a true man of faith. He never met a stranger and treated everyone like a friend he had known for years. Countless stories reflect his kindness and quick humor, two things that we will all dearly miss. Charles proudly served in the U. S. Army as a Military Policeman stationed in Germany.
Sharing 60 years of marriage with his wife, Linda, he was a proud father to his two sons, Rocky and Bo. His fondest memories are in the woods with his youngest son and best friend, Bo. Hunting and fishing were more than just hobbies – they were a part of Charles, and he rarely came home empty handed.
Above all he was a man of faith. When asked what led him to dress as Moses and walk to Decatur carrying the 10 Commandments, Linda simply answered, “Faith.” He lived his life guided by that belief, holding close to the promise of Jeremiah 29:11.
He was also a dedicated philanthropist. Charles raised thousands of dollars for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of his first-born son, Rocky.
Charles was preceded in death by his two sons, Rocky and Bo; father, Samuel; mother, Esther; sister, McKinney; and brother, George Thomas.
Charles is survived by his wife, Linda; sister, Pam; brothers, Marvin and Nick; and his grandson, Blaine; along with several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be remembered for his generosity and charm, his countless stories, and the unending love he had for his family.
Visitation will be at Parkway Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with service to follow. Family will meet at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider contributing to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
