Mr. Hodge, who died Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at his residence, was born May 25, 1942, in Maryland to Howard Marvin Hodge and Phyllis Kate Brooks Hodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jane Larsen Hodge; and his parents;
Charles Arthur "Charlie" Hodge was born in Linthicum Heights, Maryland where he was raised, the middle of three boys, and attended Brooklyn Park High School (1960). He graduated from The University of Maryland where he met his wife of 49 years Linda Jane Larsen. He credited having the courage to ask her for a dance at a school social to his mother who forced him to take ballroom dance lessons as a youth. After marrying in 1964, they moved to each attend Iowa State where he earned a doctorate in Chemical Engineering. They moved to Alabama in 1969, where Charles worked for most of his 30-year career at TVA as an engineer in fertilizer research and development. Charles and Linda built a log house in the country in Killen where they raised their five sons who all followed their father into engineering. He loved gardening and cultivated an orchard of over 25 fruit trees. He later fulfilled a childhood dream of being a farmer by purchasing a farm in Iowa where he and his wife would spend time in their retirement and reminisce their country drives together when newlyweds. Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his eight grandchildren at family reunions on the beach. Charles was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by five sons, Stephen Hodge, Andrew Hodge, Howard "Chip" Hodge, David Hodge, and Daniel Hodge; two brothers, Stanley Hodge and Allan Hodge; and eight grandchildren, Sydney Hodge, Wesley Hodge, Isabella Hodge, Lucas Hodge, Tove Hodge, Osa Hodge, Augustus Hodge, and Astrid Hodge.
