Billy Ray Reed

Funeral service for Billy Ray Reed, age 85, of Hillsboro, will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024,. at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Godbee and Rev. Steve Kelso officiating.  The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.  Interment will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.  Guestbook available at www.parkwayfunerals.com.

Mr. Reed, who died Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at his residence, was born May 9, 1939, in Alabama.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Billy Ray Reed was the only child of Monroe and Katie Morris Reed.  He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.  He retired from 3M in Decatur following 35 years of service.  Billy's favorite hobby was working with his heavy equipment.  After working an 8-hour day at 3M, Billy could be found working outdoors with his excavating business.  If he was moving dirt, he was happy.  Billy was a loving husband and father.  He never missed a game his daughters played or cheered.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life.  He loved traveling and had visited all but four of the United States.  Billy had a multitude of friends and was loved by all.  

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Hill Reed;  two daughters, Penny Reed Owens and Sonja Reed Gillespie (Brent); four grandchildren, Zachary Owens (Emily), Courtney Smith, Reed Gillespie (Mariah), and Bailey Hardin (Cole); and four great-grandchildren, Natalie Smith, Abigail Smith, Evan Owens, and Karter Gillespie.

 Pallbearers will be Larry Reed, Brian Reed, Danny Morris, Jeff Wilbanks, Chris Bracken, Kelly Hill, Shannon Claborn, and Gary Reed.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley (P. O. Box 7745, Decatur, AL 35602) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
